Season 2001/2002

Peterborough United were the early leaders, winning their first three games, but Parkgate, Highfield Rangers and Lincoln City all kept in touch, with Chesterfield creeping up the table  to head it in December.

Derby County suffered a dreadful start from which they never recovered, with only one point from their first 9 games.

After Christmas it remained tight, for although Peterborough dropped out of the running, all the other clubs maintained their success. Port Vale, Derby County and Stafford Rangers were in difficulty at the other end, with Ilkeston Ladies and Telford United looking nervous just above the drop zone. 

Once again, bad weather meant that the season over-ran, but eventually Lincoln City, who had only just joined the league, ran out as clear winners.

At the other end of the table, a Port Vale equaliser in the 6th minute of injury time at Derby County consigned both clubs to relegation, so the only happy spectators were the ones from Stafford!

Due to problems in both the East and West Midlands Leagues, their Champions were very late in being declared. Loughborough Students emerged victorious from the East Midlands, and with Kidderminster once again declining promotion, Bridgnorth came through as runners-up from the West. Coventry City were relegated from the Women’s Premier division to complete the line-up for 2002/3.
